Home is where the heart is.

Last week I headed home, to South Canterbury, NZ. I knew it would be about 8 degrees colder than Wellington, frosts and crisp air. But there would be a fire warming every night, and homemade meals. I had venison, duck and salmon. Very spoiled. Here is a collection of photo's from my trip home. Above is the sunrise on the way to Mt Hutt skifield for a day of skiing.

The mountains.

The Canterbury Plains from the top of Mt Hutt.

The top of the mountain.

At home, the cats lay languidly infront of the fire. This is Belle, or Tinkerbell, my brother & sister-in-law's cat who is staying with my parents for a while.

Neo's massive paws, he's not even two yet, and he's huge. My brother and I bought him for my parents Christmas of 2010. He used to be so tiny. That Christmas he fell asleep draped on my chest while I tried to digest the meal.

Attack of Neo.

Our wintery back yard. The yellow weeping willow is where I used to go to think and ponder life.

The way to Christchurch for my flight the fog was just lifting - it made for some beautiful shots.

Fog over the riverbed.

  4. Such lovely photos! What kind of camera did you use?

I went to the South Island for the first time last year (bad, I know! haha) and I loved it! We flew into Christchurch and stayed for a few days before driving up to Nelson, such a nice way to see part of the country I had never seen before :D

    1. Just my Canon G12. Can't wait to get my DSLR. I love the South Island - I really do think it's more beautiful than the north Island, but I might be biased. Haha. My favourite part is through Lewis Pass to Nelson - such beautiful Beech forest! Reminds me of LotR.

    1. Haha indeed. I have to be honest though, living in Wellington then going back home down south, I'm so much more appreciative of the wide open spaces and mountains and the plains... here there are so many hills they hide the sun. I don't really like North Island terrain either...

I'm such a snob when it comes to my hometown, I love it. LOL.
